Rood Range Pumpkin Massacre
Halloween at the Range
The centerpiece is absolutely pumpkins, but I’d turn it into several short shooting games so people can participate without committing to an all-day competition.
- Pumpkin Execution: Everyone gets a pumpkin at 50 or 75 yards. Timed head-to-head elimination. First shooter to visibly destroy or knock their pumpkin off the stand advances. Keep calibers/classes controlled so the competition stays reasonably fair.
- Zombie Headshots: Halloween silhouette or zombie targets with small designated scoring zones. Accuracy matters more than speed. This could be pistol at 10–15 yards.
- Witch Hunt: A rack of small Halloween-themed steel targets, perhaps witches, ghosts, bats, etc. Shoot them in a prescribed order against the clock. Essentially a Halloween-flavored mini Metal Madness.
- Ghost Hunt: White clay targets or other frangible targets placed at varying distances on the berm. Shooter doesn't know exactly where all of them are before stepping to the line. Find them and eliminate them against the clock.
- Pumpkin Sniper: Small pumpkins at 100, 200, 300 and 350 yards. One hit per distance, limited rounds. That lets the full Rood Range stretch its legs and gives the precision-rifle crowd something to do.
